Many people plan and save up for months or even years to prepare for their Disney vacation. A key aspect of planning your perfect Disney vacation is maximizing efficiency and saving time throughout the vacation. A great way to do this is by properly utilizing FastPass+ while in the parks.

FastPass+ allows guests to skip the oftentimes very long stand-by lines and enjoy attractions more quickly. Here is how it works:

When guests purchase their park tickets or annual passes, they are able to select FastPasses for up to three attractions per day. However, all three FastPasses must be selected for attractions in the same park. For example, you can reserve FastPasses for Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train for the same day, because all three attractions are at Magic Kingdom. If you try to select FastPasses for attractions for the same day at different parks, you will encounter an error and will not be able to select FastPasses for attractions in different parks.

Guests can reserve FastPasses 30 days before their vacation if they are staying off property, and 60 days prior to their vacation if they are staying at a hotel on Disney property, or in select applicable nearby hotels.

FastPasses for the most popular attractions at WDW are difficult to reserve, because of the limited availability of FastPasses for each attraction per day. In order to reserve a FastPass for attractions such as Flight of Passage, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Frozen Ever After, etc., you need to plan ahead and reserve those FastPasses as far in advance as possible. Once in a while, you may get lucky and find that a FastPass for one of these attractions is available the day of your park visit, but don’t count on this to happen. It is a rare gift that shouldn’t be counted on when planning your day in the parks.

A great trick to maximizing your benefit from using FastPasses is to reserve all three of your FastPasses as early in the day as possible. The reason it is best to use them early in the day is because, once you have used all three of your FastPasses, then you can use your MyDisneyExperience app, or go to one of the FastPass kiosks in the parks and select additional FastPasses, one at a time, based on availability.

Once your initial three FastPasses have been used, the additional FastPasses you select throughout the day can be for attractions in any of the four parks. Once again, for example, if you start your day at Magic Kingdom and have used your Fastpasses for the attractions mentioned above, you can then visit one of the other three parks and select FastPasses for attractions in those parks, one at a time. For those of you who like to park hop, this is a great way to save some time while doing so.

For the most popular attractions in the parks, the FastPass lines may still require you to wait for a while to enjoy the attractions, but FastPass lines will be significantly shorter than waiting in the stand-by lines.

We strongly advise you to, as much as possible, plan each day of your vacation well in advance. When you enter the 30 or 60 day window prior to your trip (depending on whether you are staying on property or off property), you can reserve your FastPasses for each day of your trip. If there are certain attractions that you consider to be must-dos during your trip, be sure to prioritize reserving your FastPasses for those attractions as soon as you are able to do so. The day your window of opportunity opens for reserving FastPasses, you are able to start reserving them at 7:00 AM Eastern Time.

To reserve FastPasses and have full access to the many necessary options to plan your Disney vacation, you can go to the Walt Disney World website and create an account there, or you can download the MyDisneyExperience mobile app and create your account.

Once your account is created, you can begin selecting your FastPasses. Be sure to add everybody in your group to your Family & Friends list so you can reserve FastPasses for your entire group. Next, you will link your ticket or annual pass to your account. Once you have linked your ticket or AP to your account, then you are ready to start selecting your FastPasses.

To see which attractions and times are available to reserve your Fastpasses, just select the park and date. It is important to remember when selecting your FastPasses that the window in which you are able to use each FastPass is open for 1 hour, and FastPasses may not overlap, so be sure to keep this in mind while making your selections. If you have a FastPass reserved at 9:00 AM, for example, then you will not be able reserve another FastPass time until 10:00 AM. To fully maximize your FastPasses throughout the day, ideally, you will want to three that are back-to-back-to-back to start the day.
